Monthly anniversaries
Do you remember dating in high school? I didn’t do it much personally, but I watched a lot of people around me celebrate anniversaries by the week or the month. We lived in a microcosm of time then, the sophomore to junior year seemed like a decade rather than a single sweep of 365 days, a summer was an epoch. From the perspective of middle-age, pushing the curmudgeon years of retirement, I suppose it’s because we didn’t have the vantage point of time feeling short, of watching our own lives disappear into decades or understanding how small our portion of History truly is.
Well, right now I feel like I’m back in high school! A giddy girl In a new relationship with all the energy of exploring the nooks and crannies of never before seen or experienced and we’re celebrating the months passing. Six, to be exact.
On October 16, 2025, a group from ACHS toured Ticknor Hill with a much different eye than we had previously visited. We had had a couple mysterious “space needs” conversations with the city of Anoka in July of 2025, but it wasn’t until meetings on Sept 11 and Oct 8 that the city’s plan to redevelop our building and block within the year became clear. Our board met on October 9, 2025 and discussed our options: going fully digital, renting, or buying. Whatever we decided, we had to move fast.
The rest, as they say, is history. These six short months until April 17, 2026, where we stand a mere 14 days away from closing on a local icon, truly feels like the exaggerated timeline of a high school romance. My only hope now is that the story flourishes into one of those classic novels people hold to their hearts and beg for a sequel.
